Question: Known as the Magnolia State, which southern state was the first to sign the 18th Amendment on January 8, 1918, an amendment to ban alcohol in the U.S.?

Answer: Mississippi. The state of Mississippi already had alcohol prohibition laws in place and was quick to ratify the amendment. The 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment in 1933 and is the only amendment to have ever been repealed. Mississippi continued with it's version of prohibition for another 30 years until 1966 but did not officially allow alcohol in all 82 counties until this year on January 1, 2021.
