About the Library

The Harrison Township Public Library serves the residents of Harrison Township, Michigan. Formed in 2009, the library was operated by volunteers for the first six years. As of 2015, the library is primarily funded through local property taxes.

Our Mission

The mission of Harrison Township Public Library is to connect people to resources that inform, educate, entertain and inspire. We seek to offer our patrons access to a world of knowledge, personal enrichment, and cultural appreciation. We value our patrons, our community, quality of service, and lifelong learning.

Our Librarians

Library Director
Dan Hutchins is our Library Director. He has worked in libraries since 1988. He began his career as a shelver at the Rochester Hills Public Library and worked his way up to a supervisory position. He comes to HTPL from the Brandon Township Public Library, where he most recently served as assistant to the Interim Director. He holds a Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science from Wayne State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Oakland University.

His hobbies include collecting comic books, listening to alternative and electronic music, and spending time with his three dogs.

Assistant Library Director
Melissa Goins is our Assistant Library Director. She has been instrumental in helping the Library grow into its present form and began as a volunteer at the library in 2009. She is the head of our technical services and is our adult services coordinator and collection specialist.  Melissa has worked in public libraries, special libraries, and academic libraries.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Oakland University and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University.

Children's and Youth Services Librarian
Julie Dries is our Children's and Youth Services Librarian. She has been a teacher and librarian in the L'Anse Creuse Public Schools for twenty years, and is a certified K-12 reading specialist. She also served as a mentor to the HTPL volunteers when the library was first forming.

Julie plans and facilitates all of our children's programs and maintains our collection of children's materials.  She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University, a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University, and a Master's Degree in Teaching Reading from Oakland University.
