The Ties That Bind: History of the Apron

Join us for this fun-filled Friends fundraiser!

Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30pm

Since almost the beginning of time, the apron has been worn in front of the body for practical, decorative and ritualistic purposes. They’ve been worn to protect garments, indicate status, depict rank, and as cultural icons.  And they are back in vogue today!  Join us as we delve into the beginnings of aprons and how they evolved over the decades to today.

We invite everyone to wear their own favorite apron, especially those handed down with love from Mom or Grandma. Event tickets are $15 each or a pack of 4 for $40. Please visit the library in person to purchase your tickets. Basket raffle to take place the night of the event. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10. We’ll explore the history of the apron, enjoy light refreshments, and mingle with friends.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Harrison Township Public Library and help fund library programs, projects, equipment, and events that support the library’s mission.

Automatic Renewals are Here!

It’s no secret. We’re all busy these days. The one thing we could all use more of is time. Well, you got it! We can do that. The Harrison Township Public Library is pleased to announce that we’re giving you more time…on your checkouts that is. Starting November 1st,  2018, the library launches its new automatic renewal service. You won’t have to do much to keep your items even longer. Materials that can be renewed will now renew automatically if they are not returned by the due date. The standard loan period is 21 days for books and 7 days for DVD movies and television series. The new service will allow users to keep their items for one additional loan period. “We’re always looking for ways to give more to our members,” said library director, Melissa Goins. “This decision was an easy one for us.”

There are some exceptions to the service. An item will not renew if:

  • other customers have requested it and are waiting
  • the item has already been renewed once
  • the customer’s account has a balance of $5 or more

Members will be notified if their items have been automatically renewed. All notices should be read carefully since all items may not be eligible for renewal. Standard overdue charges of 20¢ per day will be charged for all items that could not be renewed automatically for any reason.
